At SSE Airtricity we’re proud to make a difference.
From small beginnings we’ve grown to become Ireland’s second largest energy provider, supplying greener electricity and natural gas to 800,000 homes and businesses on the island.
Since 2008 our parent company, the FTSE Top-50 listed SSE plc, has invested over €2 billion, or around €1 million a day, in growing our energy business here – creating jobs in Ireland, sustaining employment, driving competition and greening our economy.
We’re proud too to be Ireland’s largest provider of 100% green energy*. In 2015, all of the electricity we supplied to our home and business customers (5.3 TWh˄) was from 100% green energy sourced by SSE Airtricity, significantly abating over 2 million tonnes† of harmful Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions on the island.
As well as supplying 100% green energy to more Irish homes and businesses than any other supplier, we’re also proud to be the largest generator of wind power in Ireland. The green energy generated by SSE Airtricity at our 25 wind farms across the island powers almost 300,000† Irish homes.
We’re also investing in new green energy generation to help protect Ireland’s energy for future generations to come. We’re currently building the 169MW Galway Wind Park in partnership with Coillte and when completed in 2017 it will become Ireland’s largest wind farm.
We’ve commissioned Ireland’s newest and one of its cleanest power plants – the 460MW CCGT (combined cycle gas turbine) power station at Great Island, Co. Wexford which can generate enough greener energy to power over half a million Irish homes.
