The Public Prosecution Office is responsible for bringing general cases on behalf of society and oversees law enforcement in the different regions of the Sultanate. Its powers include the authority to enforce criminal laws, pursue the guilty and implement rulings under the Law. The Public Prosecution Office Law was promulgated under Royal Decree No. 92/2001. It employs highly qualified male and female Omani personnel and enjoys the benefits of advanced technology. The Public Prosecution Office in the wilayat of Barka has had a woman director of administration since April 2008.
