Dhofar municipality was established in the early 1971 within the administrative system of office of the minister of state and governor of Dhofar. This was a start of the contribution experience of the community and its participation in running local affairs. The organizational structure of Dhofar municipality has been approved by the royal decree no.70/80 and the royal decree no 14/83 within the administrative structure of office of the minister of state and governor of Dhofar consisting of municipality administration and the responsibilities of each of the following departments:
Dhofar Municipality was so determined to spread out its shadows through the services it offer in the Governorate of Dhofar. It didn't stop from providing its services to the people a matter which resulted in forming New sub-Municipality in 1974(Taqah, Mirbat, Sadah, Thumrait, Dhalkut, and Rakhyot). Finally new branches were provided in Magshan and Shalim Juzor Alhlnyat under the name of Al Mazyoona and Wilayaat Municipalities.
The extended services of the municipality imposed the need of more organizational administrative authorities. That need was taken into account by the royal decree no. 16/2003 issued on the 22nd of February2003. The new decree approved the new administrative structure of Dhofar municipality which included establishing (for the first time) general departments. Another ministerial decision was issued to stress the royal decree and accredited the organizational category of Dhofar Municipality.
Dhofar municipality has taken its steps towards the positive interaction between itself and the society according to the logo which was implemented since its establishment in 1971 (the municipal work is a common effort between the municipality and the society). The municipality is working to embody, diversify the methods and to execute its goals in addition to the renewing of its services and utilities depending on innovative ideas a matter which was appreciated and acknowledged by everyone inside Oman and abroad.
The adoption of various entertainment activities and different festivals is an evidence of a real success of its approach. This approach aims to develop and promote the municipal work to be more expanded and more spread among all the community classes.
However, Dhofar municipality is seeking to harvest the results of its continues attempt to implement its approaches and cover the defect in every angels through the services and the programs it offers taking into consideration all the responsibilities it should handle with care. As a priority the municipality will always offer the best services in the best ways having its inspiration from the help of the society and their understanding to accomplish the best in creating the most developed society in all aspects. And the municipality will always remain to develop its services to reach the desired goals.
