Basra Oil Company operates oil fields in southern Iraq. It produces oil reserves. Basra Oil Company was formerly known as South Oil Company and changed its name to Basra Oil Company in April 2017. The company was founded in 1964 and is based in Basra, Iraq.
South Oil Company (SOC) is a national Iraqi company responsible for the oil in the South of Iraq, and is Heas Quarters of the company is situated in Basrah, Iraq. South Oil Company is one of the major fundamental formations of the Iraq National Oil Company. It was the first nucleus and the basis of national direct investment projects in the 1970s, where the SOC was subsidiary to the national company. The SOC was classified as the first company in Iraq and the eighth in production rating for global oil companies. The company activities covered a geographical area of 180,000 m² stretching from the Arab Gulf to Hadeth.
