The Emirate of Fujairah is one of the seven emirates forming the United Arab Emirates. Situated in the country’s east, Fujairah extends 90 kilometres along the Gulf of Oman. The area of Fujairah is approximately 1,165 square kilometres, ranking it as the fifth largest of the Emirates. At the last census, in 2005, the Emirate had a population of 118,617. The City of Fujairah is the capital of the Emirate.
Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, the Ruler of Fujairah and Supreme Council member, the Emirate has enjoyed a rapid rate of economic and social development in recent years.
Since the establishment of a free trade zone more than a decade ago, commercial activity in the Emirate has flourished. More than 250 companies have invested approximately $350 million in the Fujairah Free Zone across a diverse range of industry sectors such as communications, engineering, manufacturing and trading.
Due to its strategic position with the UAE’s only access to the Indian Ocean, Fujairah has a bustling, important multipurpose port. Port activities include container handling, cargo services, livestock handling, marine supply and repair and bunkering. In fact, Fujairah ranks as one of the top three bunkering locations in the world, along with Singapore and Rotterdam.
Fujairah has also become a booming tourist destination, thanks to the Emirate’s unspoiled natural beauty, including magnificent sandy beaches, mountains and oases, fascinating historical attractions and archaeological sites, and year-round sunshine.
