The Catalan Energy Institute is the entity of the Government of Catalonia responsible for developing and implementing energy policy Catalan, especially in the field of improving energy efficiency and saving and the development of renewable energy.
The energy policy of the Government of Catalonia is a priority of the first order whose mission is to achieve an economy and society of low intensity and low carbon energy, innovative, competitive and sustainable in line with European objectives regarding energy by 2020.
In this situation, the policies of energy saving and efficiency are crucial to ensure a sustainable energy system for our country. The actions in this regard have contributed to the reduction commitments of greenhouse gases within the European Union must strengthen the energy sector as an opportunity for economic growth and job creation qualified. It is also necessary to ensure improved safety and quality of energy supply and the development of energy infrastructure needed to achieve the energy system of the country.
Catalonia has been a pioneer in this field, through the Catalan Energy Institute develops programs to promote energy efficiency in the industrial sector. He also works in the field of buildings, through the energy certification of buildings or savings plan to boost consumption centers in the Government of Catalonia itself.
The ICAEN also involved and works together with the local development of energy efficiency measures in municipal buildings, street lighting and efficient mobility. Similarly, ICAEN collaborates with other Government departments developing transversal actions such as the National Pact for the energy transition, the Action Plan on energy efficiency in industry, the Catalan Strategy Renewal Energy of buildings or Energy Recovery Strategy for Agricultural and Forest Biomass.
The performance by the Institute is completed planning and forecasting future energy firm commitment to renewable energy as a strategic option for present and future for the country, efforts to inform and educate on matters of energy professionals and citizens, and working together with companies, organizations and professional associations, among other key areas of work.
