The Astaldi Group was founded in the '20s, when Ing. Sante Astaldi founded the eponymous one-man company "Ing. Sante Astaldi ", a construction company that operates mainly in the procurement of large civil works in Italy and in the overseas colonies.
In 1929 was founded the company Astaldi Construction and Public Works SpA Until the Second World War, the company operates mainly on the Italian territory and in some African countries, engaging in the construction of railways, aqueducts, ports and public buildings. Among the first achievements included the Rome-Naples (1926/1929) and Bologna-Firenze (1933/1935) in Italy and the road Addis Ababa-Great Lakes (1939/1940) in Ethiopia.
The company maintains a significant presence in Italy and extends its sphere of activity to English (Eastern Kenya, Uganda) and then in other areas of the continent (Zaire, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Burundi, Rwanda, Mozambique). The activity is concentrated mainly in road construction, while in Italy consists mainly in the work of post-war reconstruction, especially in hydraulic systems and railways.
